Our vision is for New Zealand to achieve superior economic and competitive performance through the adoption of RFID and EPC technologies. Our mission is to make the process of evolution (or revolution) faster and make the result optimal. We will work with industry and individuals to educate, research, pilot and implement RFID to provide valuable leanings for our members.

806-960 MHz band replanning

Communications and Information Technology Minister Steven Joyce announced the government will be making more radio spectrum available for new and emerging commercial technologies.

Radio frequency identification (RFID) systems such as those used in supply chain management and radio mesh networks used for smart metering will both benefit from the changes.

Defining a business case for the adoption of RFID technology within an organisation can be difficult for many reasons, not least internal inexperience with the technology.
Pathfinder is keen to work with and offer financial support for individuals or organisations seeking to identify and define a business case for the use of RFID technology based on EPC/Ultra High Frequency (UHF).

Report on UHF livestock tracking trials available
Rural IT specialist Rezare Systems ran trials with UHF ear tags for the RFID of livstock during October-November last year. These on-farm trials were carried out withbacking from Deer Industry New Zealand, the Meat Industry Association, New Zealand Trade and Enterprise, ANZCO, Landcorp Farming, GS1 and the New Zealand RFID Pathfinder Group.
The trials have provided further demonstration of how suitable this technology can be, especially for use with deer and sheep. The full report is now available for you.

USDA Approves First UHF Tag for Animal Identification System
From RFID Journal, january 2010 - The agricultural department says an EPC Gen 2 RFID tag from Eriginate can serve as an alternative to low-frequency RFID tags for use with its National Animal Identification System.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has approved a passive ultrahigh-frequency (UHF) RFID tag for cattle tracking that will be used in conjunction with the agency's Animal Identification Number (AIN) system.
